This part of my first Bow River float was both wonderful, weird, and kind of melancholy. I grew up in Calgary, but I rarely got this view of downtown from the river. Floats on your own as a kid were verbotten. I didn't have a life jacket and the Calgary Fire Department patrolled the river pretty hard. They usually plucked me out by the time I got this far and I was returned to an unimpressed parent.
The weird part is looking at the rocks streaming past under you at a good clip and wondering how fragile the fin is on your paddleboard as this is your first time trying this with it. If it catches does the board deflate?
Melancholy because I knew we were disembarking just past city centre. My fun ride was coming to an end in about twenty minutes.
